Spirit Fingers is the band Greg Spero leads. It formed in 2015 out of the West Coast Get Down scene in Los Angeles, taking the storming energy of early-70s fusion through modern grooves, hip-hop and polyrhythms. Earlier albums came out on Shanachie (Spirit Fingers, 2018) and Ropeadope (PEACE, 2020). Glide Magazine called PEACE "a stunning effort."
Live at the JammJam is the band stripped to keys, bass and drums. Greg Spero plays keys, Mike Mitchell, known as Blaque Dynamite, plays drums, and Mohini Dey joins on bass as featured guest. The six tracks were recorded in the round on October 23, 2025 at the JammJam, Jammcard's members-only show at The Recording Club in Santa Monica, with the crowd packed around the band. The music runs on deep pocket, odd-meter grooves and open improvisation, from Nails, written in 20 over 16, to the long-form Find and You, each past thirteen minutes. Jammcard's seven JammJam videos of the night have passed 2.8 million views on YouTube.
Five of the six tracks came out as singles in 2026: Nails, Find, Improvisation, Tune 59 and You. The album adds the Introduction and lands Friday, November 13 on Tiny Records. Greg Spero grew up in Highland Park, Illinois, started playing and composing at three and was working professionally by fourteen. He built The Recording Club, the Santa Monica studio where the record was made. The release party is Thursday, November 19 in Santa Monica.
